Wakool Shire
Situated in New South Wales, the Wakool Shire is bounded on the north by the Murrumbidgee River, on the west and south by the Murray River and intersected by the Wakool, Edward and Niemur Rivers.
Wakool Shire is home to the towns of Barham, Wakool, Moulamein and Tooleybuc and is renowned for the many rivers that flow through the region. The Wakool Shire is a popular destination for fishing and camping and features a variety of local events. The Barham Club is a popular attraction and provides a great range of entertainment.
The attractions of the Murray River and the bygone paddlesteamer days are a key attraction at the Port of Echuca. The port features a great display of historic memorabilia and is home to many fine restaurants and hotels. The Murray River is a popular destination for water skiing, fishing and relaxing.
Swan Hill Rural City CouncilSwan Hill Rural City Council is mainly an agricultural and horticultural region deriving its income from these industries and the businesses that service them.
The municipality is bordered by the Murray River for over 300kms and is highly dependant on it for irrigation, and domestic and industrial water supplies as well as active and passive recreational pursuits.
Swan Hill and Robinvale are the two largest service centres in the municipality; however a number of smaller towns such as Lake Boga, Manangatang, Nyah West, Piangil, Ultima and Woorinen South offer a variety of lifestyles.
The Loddon Shire covers an area of approximately 6,700 square kms, making it the eighth largest municipality in area in Victoria.
Land is mainly used for agriculture and horticulture, particularly grain, sheep, wool, beef cattle, dairy, pigs and poultry. In recent years there has also been viticulture, olives and fodder crops.
Major features of the Shire include the Loddon River, Terrick Terrick National Park, Leaghur State Park, Kooyoora State Park, Lake Boort and the Major Mitchell Trail.
